Tuesday’s Devotional

In Genesis 18:16-33, Abraham intercedes for Lot.  If you remember the story, Lot moved to Sodom and became prosperous. Sodom was a city filled of wicked people.  Lot had lived so long around the ungodly people that he was no longer a believable witness for God.  He allowed his environment to shape him and allow certain immoralities to be condoned.  Instead of Lot shaping his environment like a follower of God should do, he fell into a rut. While this was going on the Lord told Abraham that He was going to destroy the city.  Abraham pleaded for Lot and any righteous people in the city. Abraham prayed and prayed and the Lord told him that He would not destroy the city if there was 10 righteous people in it. There was not 10 though.  This reminded me of James 5:16 “The prayer of the righteous person is powerfully effective.” If it wasn’t for the strong prayer of Abraham, Lot and his entire family would have died with the rest of the city.  Sometimes we are following what God commands of us, but know someone that was or never followed the Lord. Pray for them! Do not stop praying for them until the Lord starts to work in their life.  Prayer is a powerful thing. Just remember how Abraham’s prayers saved Lot and his children.  Your prayer can be what stands between someones survival or demise. So please take some time out everyday to pray not just for yourself but for others. God bless you all.
