Rebelling against God

Numbers 14:1-4

All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.  All the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt. or would that we had died in this wilderness.  Why does the LORD bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: wouldn’t it be better for us to return into Egypt?” They said one to another, “Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.”

From reading the verses above, you learn that the Israelites wanted a new leader to be assigned and even wanted to go back into Egypt.  They complained about being in the wilderness. They were not happy with being free anymore because they had to be in the wilderness for a period of time. They even complained about having to go to war.  They did not trust the Lord to protect them. The Israelites believed that they were going to die and that their families would be plundered.  Moses had to keep telling the people to stop rebelling against God and complaining.  This angered the Lord and He wanted to destroy them (Numbers  14:12).

Moses had to intercede for the people yet once again.  Thanks to Moses’s plea to God, the people’s lives were spared. However, they were not able to enter the land of milk and honey.  Their lack of faith in the Lord truly hurt them in the long run.  Caleb was one of the only adults allowed to go because of his faith in God to defeat the giants.  All of his dependents were able to go as well when the time came.

People who put their trust in the Lord are rewarded richly.  Lack of faith will lead you to distrust and disobey our Lord which will have consequences.  It it not for us to understand God’s plans for us.  God puts us all where we need to be. When the Lord knows the time is right, He will move you forward in life.  It is on us to trust in Him.  God knows what is in your heart and if your loyalty is not to Him, you cannot expect Him to move mountains for you in your life.  Please learn from the Israelites.  Don’t be the reason why you do not enter your land of milk and honey or even curse your children for not doing the right thing. God bless you all and have a wonderful evening.
