Wisdom before riches

2 Chronicles 1:11-12

God told Solomon, “Since you had this in mind, to ask neither to focus on riches, wealth, honor, or the lives of those who hate you, nor have you requested a long life, but instead you have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself, so that you may rule my people over whom I have established you as king, 12  wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. Furthermore, I will give you riches, wealth, and honor—such as none of the kings owned who lived before you and none after you are to ever attain their equal.”

God told King Solomon to ask for whatever he wanted and King Solomon requested wisdom and knowledge to rule God’s people the way they should be ruled.  He put his people’s needs before his own.  Solomon could have asked for riches, fame, or even the death of all his enemies, but chose not to.  Solomon knew that wisdom and knowledge would be best for a young king to be able to rule his people justly.

Proverbs 3:13-14

How joyful is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding, 14  because her profit is better than the profit of silver, and her yield than fine gold.

The wisdom given to King Solomon, can also be given to us.  How can we receive wisdom, knowledge and more?

James 1:5

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to everyone generously without a rebuke, and it will be given to him.

Ask God and he will not rebuke you.  Then devote yourself and the time to learning and understanding God’s word. Only by learning God’s word can you have the knowledge to know what is right and wrong in the eyes of the Lord. Then we can use that knowledge to do the right thing at the right time.  Then you will live a Godly life.  You may not have the riches of King Solomon, however, you can have a rich life centered on our Heavenly Father.  I rather live in rags and have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ then have all the riches in the world.  I pray that many of you out there feel the same way too.  I pray this message helps someone in need today.  Please have a blessed day!
