1 Kings 8:41-43
Now concerning the foreigner who is not from your people Israel, when he comes from a land far away for the sake of your name 42 (for people will hear of your great name, your mighty acts, and your obvious power), when he comes and prays facing this Temple. 43 then hear in heaven where you reside, and do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the people of the earth may know your name, fear you as do your people Israel, and so they may know that this Temple that I have built is called by your name.
God set aside Israel to be a blessing and to be an example to the entire world. He would make them a great nation and would bless them as spoken to Abram (Gen 12:1-3). This blessing was fulfilled by Jesus Christ. Jesus was both a descendant of Abraham and King David. Jesus was the Messiah for both the gentiles and the jews. When Israel first entered the promised land, they were ordered by our Heavenly Father to destroy the evil pagan nations. They were sent to do this task not because of God loves war, but to cleanse the land for His people. God was to be the light for all the world to see through Israel. Sadly, Israel fell short of reaching the entire world because time and time again they fell into sin. God commanded them to reach all nations and they could not.
The eleven disciples went into Galilee to the hillside to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshipped him, though some had doubts. 18 Then Jesus approached them and told them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, as you go, disciple people in all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. And remember, I am with you each and every day until the end of the age.”
Today the great commission is just as important to God as it was to the Israelites. Have you shared the good news with others? The knowledge of our God and what He has done in your life should not be held inwardly, but shared with others. If we do not do what is commanded of us, we will fall short just like Israel did. Share His message to whoever you can and please have a blessed day.
