The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish. 5 The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the law, violated the statute, and broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell therein are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs. Glory to the righteous. But I said, “I pine away. I pine away. Woe is me.” The treacherous have dealt treacherously. Yes, the treacherous have dealt very treacherously.
When reading Isaiah’s apocalypse in Isaiah 24, I feel my heart is heavy with grief like he stated in verse 16. The reason why my heart fills with grief is because this prophecy has already started to work its way into our lives today. Verses 4-6 identify how the earth will be dried up and crops will waste away and that is currently happening around the world. But who are we to blame other than ourselves?
Isaiah explains it, the land suffers from our sins. Today we see the effects of sin in our land in the form of pollution, war, and overpopulation. We see people failing due to the sins of addiction, greed and lust. When people sin, it affects everyone. Even those faithful to God pay a price when others sin. With everything going on in the world and our daily lives, people have a tendency to blame God for their mistakes. We need to hold ourselves accountable for these past sins of our fathers that we have continue to allow for simple greed.
There is a silver lining in all of this though. The more we speak against sin, renounce sin in our lives and around us, and share God’s word, we slow down the plague of evil that is currently cast over our world today. So as you see, we should still have hope in our hearts for the world. Even if it’s helping one person at a time or cleaning up around your community, every little thing counts and we can all make a difference in this world. So brothers and sisters, lets come together and start making a change in our lives, our families lives and our community. Let Christ’s love pour out of you and into others. This way we can be a part solution and not the problem. Please have a blessed day.
