Then the Lord said: “Because these people draw near with their mouths and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, worship of me has become merely like rules taught by human beings. 14 Therefore, watch out! “As for me, I will once again do amazing things with this people, wonder upon wonder. The wisdom of their wise men will perish, and the insights of their discerning men will stay hidden.” 15 “How terrible it will be for you who go to great depths to hide your plans from the LORD, you whose deeds have been done in the dark, and who say, ‘Who can see us? Who has recognized us?’
There are two small lessons I want to share with everyone today. To do this, I will split this scripture up to two sections. The first section is going to be 13-14, and the second will be verse 15. If everyone is ready to start this lesson, let’s begin.
When reading Isaiah 29:13-14 and hearing that the people claimed to be close to God, but were disobedient and were just going through the motions hurts my heart. The same thing is happening today and as Christians that study God’s word should know better than to continue making the same mistakes. However, many go to church or help others out of a routine instead of out of the love of the Lord of Christ in them. Their religion became a simple routine, which angered God because it was making a mockery out of Him. So God brought judgement for them for these sins. Do you remember Jesus quoting these texts to Israel’s hypocrisy when speaking to the pharisees?
You hypocrites! How well did Isaiah prophesy of you when he said, 8 ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 Their worship of me is empty, because they teach human rules as doctrines.’
We are all capable of being hypocrites, and knowing this we should strive to stay humble under all circumstances. Before you speak to someone, especially when angry think about this. We need to guard ourselves from this and get ourselves out of the routines we put ourselves in, especially when we worship our Heavenly Father. Please don’t neglect to give God all your love and to glorify Him for everything whether good or bad. When we worship Him, it should be humbly and sincerely. This is a lesson that is thought many times over and over in the bible.
The second part of this lesson will be on verse 15. The people worshiped as hypocrites and thought they could hide their sins from the Lord. I just explained why it is important to worship God humbly, but now I want to talk about thinking you could hide your sins from God. In Psalm 139, we learn that our Heavenly Father knows everything about us. Do you think it would be embarrassing or shameful if your spouse, friend or even strangers knew your sins or thoughts? Our God knows them all! A wise person should hear this and should turn away from their sinning in the shadows.
So please take these two lessons I am sharing with you today and take a look inside yourself. We all want to be blessed by God, and accept His grace. But how can you honestly accept His Gifts or even expect them when we are not living our lives right? So reflect and ensure your worship is sincere and humble. Also reflect upon yourself for any sins you think you are hiding from God in the shadows and the ones around you. Repent for them and seek forgiveness. That way you can appreciate the gifts God bestows on us on a daily basis. Whether big or small, be grateful for everything. Now please have a blessed day yall.
